April 18, 2002 - The Phoenix, Toronto, ON Posted By Skewbedew Let me start off with a review of the show at the phoenix last night. I'll skip the set list cause it's been done. The opening band-Left Pencey-were great, despite everyone always making comparisons, the band has great talent. Keep an eye out for these guys. The other band-Full Nine- I really really didn't like(my opinion), I've seen them open up for BW @ Sheridan College last year and was disappointed with them as well. On the bright side for the band they do get better further into the set, but still not something I like. So by this time the crowd was all pumped and ready to go, you could look around at everyone and you could tell who they were there for. Some people were in a bad mood, but I think that had to do with that they only knew one song by the band and that's all they went to see, sad but probably true. The preview of entertainment before BW was the gene simmons guy and his woman. They got into a fight for no reason, Sidenote: kids please don't drink. It was funny to see how dumb people can be. Then Big Wreck hit the stage @ 11:15, they looked to be in a good mood, enjoying the night. Ian was very talkative. The crowd roared once they started, and this great energy took over the crowd. They played all the great songs. Ian messed up the lyrics on "that song" but everyone laughed at him even the band, it was funny though, it was like it was your brother who just messed something up and you laughed and continued to enjoy the night. Overall, everyone was having a blast, Ian was supporting the leafs, even showing his Leafs watch with the indigo light. Then he rubbed in that Dave was a Rangers fan. I'd have to say this show was a great relief to hear some of the greatest live music I'll ever hear. To all that were there and to all that were not, it was a blast Big Wreck style. Sidenote: I have pics that I have yet to scan, stay tuned for those. Got a pic of the disco ball Ian loved and Dave talking about his mullet. Now onto the rest of the post. As I was at the concert I was thinking about all the rumours lately about the band, I decided to write an encouraging post for everyone. The band is,by far,one of the most talented ever. Ian: great personality, amazing guitarist, and musician. Although he's the frontman he can't do it by himself. Brian: don't really know much about him, great guitarist-very under-rated. Him and Ian connect so well on guitar, it's what makes the BW sound complete. Dave: funny, great guy. Amazing bassist, I wish I played bass after watching him, he makes it look so good. Forrest: great guy, wicked drummer, really nice. Keep up the great work, buddy. This is the band, without one they are incomplete. They each bring their own persona to the band which makes it what it is. The one thing I love about this band, is the great energy they bring when they play. All the fans are enjoying it, all the fans are getting their money's worth. Even the people who arent fans, I'm sure they left fans. Anyway, to the guys if you ever get a chance to read this. All the hard hard work is paying off, I've been seeing so many new fans now. Keep it up and remember why you got into it in the first place. For all the fans...pop in that BW cd and play it loud and proud everywhere you go. Skewbs P.S. I still have ringing in my ears. |
