April 3, 2002 - Studebaker's, Burnaby, BC Posted By Salty Dog Last night's show was amazing, no technical problems at all. Two opening acts: Goya and Left Pencey. The singer from Goya was very difficult to watch, he looked like The Shermanator from American Pie and his gestures and movements were very exaggerated. I had to go outside cause I couldn't stand to look at him, he was way too 'homeboy'. Left Pencey was great, the singer cut all his hair off, the previous night his hair was blond and a few inches long, now it was a brown buzz-cut. BW hit the stage at midnight and played until 1:45am. Ian had to switch guitars during Breakthrough and he had Patrick waiting in the ready, pretty funny. He would mouth the words: Are you ready? Nod. Sing: "PLEASE" Mouthing: Ready? Nod. Sing: "PLEASE" Mouthing: Ready? Nod. Switch guitars. Sing: "KINDA SURPRISED I DON'T FEEL TOO BAD WHEN I THINK ABOUT THE KINDA WEEK I HAD..." Very slick and entertaining. Same set as Victoria except the encore consisted of: Mistake (Ian: I think this is my favorite from the latest album) The Oaf Going Nuts (I asked Patrick if the last bit was Black Sabbath, he said they were just F*&^ing around) It sounded fantastic, whatever it was. Near the beginning of the show, Ian told everyone to drink, he said on the tourbus they call it 'busjuice'. Sounds like camp, except we called it 'bugjuice'! Ian was not the chattiest he's ever been but he looked really happy and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves. Forrest is way too nice. As they got off the stage, they all got bombarded to sign autographs. Most of the guys complied but Forrest ended up staying for about 20 minutes signing autographs and checking out a girl's forehead. I think she got injured or something (anybody know?) Last night was not sold out, I asked the door guy why it was never advertised, he said that an advert van was driving around UBC so they were not allowed to advertise. Now let me ask you, if BW is playing at Arts County Fair @ UBC on Friday, why would UBC students go see them in Burnaby on Wednesday??? |
