September 2, 2001 - Grand Bend Motorplex, Grand Bend, ON Posted By Julia I know there are other people on this board who were at the show last night and i'd love to hear your opinions too. I had a great time - they sounded awesome! I got to the Motorplex around 5pm and decided to pay an extra $10 and go in early - they were still racing cars until a little before 8pm. It was pretty boring. The stage was right next to where the cars would pull up to get ready to race - literally the cars would drive past the stage, where they were setting up for the show, before racing. I think the show finally started around 8:30 or 9pm - i was all the way at the front, slightly to the right of center. The first band, Joydrop was pretty cool. During one lull in the noise between songs the guy behind me yells to the lead singer of Joydrop something like "I want you to have my babies" and she defintely heard him 'cause she looks over at him the he yells "will you marry me?" LOL! Finger 11 was good too - the crowd was really into them. I don't really know their music so i don't think i was into it as much as the people around me. I did like when one of the guitar players spun around in a circle while he played. And of course, BW put on a great show. Here's the setlist (close to the same as the last setlist posted): inhale look what i found that song ladylike blown wide open jetcar song breakthrough mistake undersold between you & i everything is fine (jetcar song again) head in the girl the oaf So you probably noticed "jetcar song" - Ian started going on about how after watching the drag racing at the Motorplex that day that he wants a jetcar. Yeah, that would be cool. So then they play this song about wanting a jetcar. It was pretty awesome - kinda heavy I think some of the lyrics the first time they played it was "i need a 20 foot frame,,,,,to get to you". A few songs later Ian said he wanted to play it again. Then a few songs after that, he said, again, that he wanted to play it again - and hey ..."I want a jet car...that goes so smooth". Ian messed up the lyrics during Mistake - i can't quite remember which part, but all of the sudden he goes, "fuck, i forgot the lyrics". Then right after that song he blames his lapse in memory on the full moon which is directly in front of him (behind us in the audience). He said it was hypnotizing him and he kept trying to get us to turn around and look at it. Then he'd stare at it as if mesmorized. LOL! I took a bunch of pictures at the show - the security were really cool! Last time i took pictures at a show the security took my camera. This time one of the security guards took my camera so he could get a close up picture of Brian for me, playing the banjo. I hope they turn out. Well, that's all i can remember right now. Julia |
