April 18, 2002 - The Phoenix, Toronto, ON Posted By Maria_neo i know ppl have been posting messages about the concert, but i thought i'd tell you about my night. well me and my friends got their early, 6ish, and were sitting on the stairs of the phoenix. it was only us, and three other ppl at the time. suddenly this guy i didn't know was like hey, there's the big wreck singer! ian was just across the street, walking back towards the club, so i decided to get up and try to get a picture with him. of course i didn't catch up in time, and he got in the tour bus before i could say anything. the other guy said he'd knock on the bus for me, but when he did some security guy denied ian was on the bus (even though i saw him walk on!!!)...and wouldn't let us get an autograph or anything...ten minutes later, the whole band got into a car and drove away to an interview or something. so now to the concert. left pencey are great! the singer has an amazing voice and they were definately entertaining. i was quite impressed anyways. the full nine were also pretty good, but i liked left pencey better. the singer was cool, and hit some high notes...i thought he resembelled brandon boyd a bit. (with longer hair). the funniest thing was that one guy trying to crowd surf...at one point these two guys threw him and he landed on the railing at the front. so after standing for hours, big wreck comes out, and all i have to say is wow! this was my first time seeing big wreck live and i'm dying to go to the hamilton show tonight. they opened with inhale, and immediately the crowd started rocking. too bad about the ozzy/gene simmons episode..(read the thread with gene simmons in the subject line for details)..but those guys were gone by the second song. ian is definately a rock god, and the band's ability to flow from a cover into one of their songs, and vice versa is amazing. that song, and the oaf were definately the two songs that got the crowd pumped the most. ian was very talkative and seemed to be in a good mood, which was great. i agree with bigwreckgirl, the disco ball thing was hilarious. the little mess up in overemphasizing seemed to make them laugh, but hey they got it back pretty quick. during head in the girl, ian was calling for a danny page (not sure if he's from left pencey or the full nine)...who failed to show up on stage. so i'm guessing he improvised a bit, and i have no clue what song he started playing in the middle of head in the girl, but it was a great ending to the night! so after more then two hours, bw left the stage, but i honestly could have stood there all night rawking out to those boys. |
