June 25, 2001 - Mercury Lounge, New York, NY

Posted By Joychica

There is so much to tell from this weekend...I just don't know where to start. Also, let me add my disclaimer now...I haven't been online since Saturday, I have no idea if anyone has already posted about the things I'm about to write...if someone has and you already know this...oh well deal with it! First there was Monday night at the Mercury Lounge. They went on around 8ish. The set list was something like...

Inhale
That Song
Knee Deep (Ian told the audience that this is his fave song off the new album.)
Ladylike
Blown Wide Open
Undersold
The Pleasure and the Greed
Breakthrough
The Oaf
(once again the middle part gets a little fuzzy but I'm pretty sure those are all the songs played.)

This time there were no problems with guitars or basses...Forrest's cymbal broke during I think "That Song," it was very early in the show. Of course Forrest just laughed it off.

There were a bunch of people there to see BW. Most of the crowd left for the second band. A lot of people showed up again for the last band The Mermen. There were pretty decent. Psychadelic Surf Music. All instrumental but kinda cool. The set was very short but good. I must admit the show in Philly was much better. Better crowd and the band seemed more into the crowd in Philly than in NYC. It probably also didn't help that they went on while the sun was still out!

The band didn't hang out much after the show as they all had a lot of family and friends at the show. I think Forrest told me they hit a diner for some grub after the show. There are no real big surprises or highlights from the show...or at least any that I can think of right now.

Onto the next story....So at the show when they got done some guy was passing out some fliers. I grabbed one didn't look at it put it in my bag. After chatting with Forrest and seeing the guys leave the bar I take out the flier. And what do I read...."Come See Big Wreck Live In-Studio, Email us for your free audience tickets." The date was all screwy saying Tuesday, June 25th. So I'm thinking I've had a lot to drink but I know today is the 25th. I had to ask a couple of guys at the bar to make sure I wasn't going crazy. So I got up early this morning and sent off an email to the addy listed. Low and behold the boys were gonna be on a local music show today at 5pm. I got a free ticket for the taping! Got down there and there were maybe 10 people there for the audience. Totally cool and intimate. Apparently it was only the tv show's second show, yesterday being their first. BW played Ladylike and then chatted with the hosts for a bit. They chatted about "the perfect concert lineup" of course they need to be a part of that gig. They mentioned Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, AC/DC..possibly others but those are what I remember. They discussed how Forrest is a neat freak. That was amusing...Hey Forrest if you read this (yes Forrest told me that they do check this place out every once in a while) you had a great idea for cleaning up the oreo cereal and coffeemate...too bad they wouldn't let ya! Then they had another host doing a live remote from somewhere..I forget...they had all these album covers hanging up. They asked the band what ones they wanted to see. I think it was Ian who requested Blind Faith. They never found it on the walls though. While one host was interviewing someone Ian was playing foosball. And started to comment on the new Tool album. He was so right on about the new album. Way toooooo long. Then they guys were getting ready to play "Inhale" and the live remote guy with the album covers came back on...He was chatting about something and then Ian and Dave noticed something behind the guy...a Danny Bonaduce album...I've never seen two grown men get so excited to see a Danny Bonaduce album cover! It was pretty amusing. So the guys finished the show by playing "Inhale." It was a good taping I thought. Of course I can always find faults in things...but overall it was good. Sorry I couldn't warn you guys sooner. I didn't really have access to the internet while I was in NYC.

Last thing I'll mention...I noticed Monday night that Dave was drinking something like a bud light or coors light in bottle while on stage...then at the taping today they were all drinking Buds...I hope they do have a little better taste in beer than that...Oh one more note about the live taping that was amusing. The look on Ian's face as he was pouring some of the Bud in his "water" cup and noticed that the camera was turning back around and he had to quickly get the beer on the ground behind the couch. I don't think they really want beer caught on tape during a live taping.

Ok I think that's it for now...I'm sure I'll think of something later on...I hope some people out there caught the show in NYC.
