April 18, 2002 - The Phoenix, Toronto, ON Posted By Annie The show at the Phoenix was so intimate and absolutely amazing. Ian's stage presence is simply phenomenal - as usual. I've witnessed a ton of bands but never known a lead singer to emit such emotion, both for the music and frankly, sex! Lovin' it! The mood that night was more jovial than past shows that I've seen, although when do they not pass along the feeling that they just want to have a few beers or shots with the fans afterward? Loved the disco ball comments, the mullet, even the forgotten-word-moments. I completely agree with BWGirl about both Left Pencey and Full Nine. LP were amazing! I will buy the CD this week - FN, didn't really care for, but to each his own. One of the intros Ian did was Springsteen's Thunderoad. "The sreen door slams, Mary's dress waves, Like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays, Roy Orbison singing for the lonely, hey that's me and I want you only, don't turn me home again, I just can't face myself alone again." Very cool! The only thing I was hoping for before the show was that Ian would come out in his red leather pants - the ones that he wore when I saw him at MuchMusic for the Brad Show (or whatever it was called). Of course, he'd look fantastic in any pants. That's all for now. |
