Big Wreck - Too Wrecked To Have A Clue

by Alex Ristric

Their new album is out in a few weeks, and already Big Wreck has started the promotional wheels rolling. This, highlighted by Toronto radio station CFNY booking the band to play the solitary EdgeFest gig on Canada Day, July 1, at Molson Park, in Barrie.

While the 16-track album The Pleasure & The Greed is due out for June 5, however, it seems like the album release and the Molson Park gig aren't the only things going for the band right now.

"(Touring plans) are being made as we speak," says lead singer Ian Thornley, from the cozy confines of the Real Jerk Caribbean cuisine eatery. "It's going to be lots (of touring). We're going to spend the better part of the next two years on the road, I think. We'll do festivals, clubs, theatres - anywhere that will have us. We'll be there playing, rocking."

Unfortunately, whether Thornley got wrecked the night before, or his mind is on other topics, he isn't aware of all the details surrounding current plans for the band. But he does try his best in between bites of jerk chicken wings, telling ChartAttack he believes the ball will start rolling when the album sees the light of day.

"Probably right around then, maybe right after, maybe before. I don't know shit man. My manager knows. I just go where they tell me; plug in and go."

This isn't the first time that Big Wreck has played EdgeFest, albeit, this time it's slightly different as it's a one-off gig as opposed to a series of shows. "There was a tour we did, I think in '99, across the country. Now it's just the one show in Barrie and we're doing that July 1. I can't wait. It's my grandfather's birthday, too."

So, is he looking forward to the experience?

"I love it man - just slaying. It's a bunch of kids who just want to have a good time and party, just letting it all hang out. Yeah man, it will be fun. We'll unleash some fury, some Big Wreck fury, and hopefully we'll have a big crazy ass backdrop, give people a good chuckle."
